"When was the last time?"
Hello

It must have been a childhood memory surfacing
when suddenly I fancied a bowl of jelly.
As a boy…
I always had to have a piece of bread and butter
with jelly. I didn’t like the blancmange but some
people did – did you?
Then…
Because the jelly was just so wonderful and full
of recallings and pictures and sounds – I just had
to start making my own again.
I started with the usual – orange jelly; then moved
on to orange jelly with oranges in it.
Inspired by the flavours – I began testing different
ideas. Lemon and lime with apple segments.
Replacing ½ the water content with fizzy lemonade;
ooohhh, that bursts on your tongue. (A friend of mine
uses sparkling wine when she does jelly for sinner parties)
I tested…
So many different ideas. Gelatin crystals, jelly squares,
different fruits, different amounts of liquid and juices to
see how long they took to set and how wobbly the jellies
were afterwards.
Test, test, test!
No pineapple or kiwi:
And – it’s definitely NOT a good idea to put any kiwi
fruit or pineapple in your jelly as they stop it setting.
All this ‘jelly-making’ reminded me of marketing and
sales and speaking and life itself.
And I wondered if I’d be doing enough testing in those
arenas.
Testing prices
Testing headlines
Testing ‘calls to action’
Testing speech openings
Testing phone –v- mail
Testing email –v- postcards
Testing smiling or frowning
Testing…
Well everything and anything.
And so…
I was cog’ing and wond’ring whether or not
you’d done any testing of anything recently.
And if not – whether RIGHT NOW might just
be the time to do some.
It’s just amazing what we find out when we test.
So called ‘cast-in-stones’ shown to be wrong.
So called ‘we-do-it-like-this-here’ methods suddenly
irrelevant!
So called ‘do-it-right-first-times’ proving it’s better
to get it wrong first time and learning to get it right
long time is better.
Might it…
Be worth some testing?
I think do – don’t you?
Go
on then!
