"And What's In A Name?"
Hello

Twinkle, twinkle little…
You
know who I mean, the guy who drives the silver…
If
you want a job done then give it to someone’s who’s
busy – they always get stuff done. And talking of which
I know a woman who’s always…
Now I know…
This
is a strange triplet – but the connectivity gives you
and me a useful fork and knife in our cutlery drawer of
people dealings.
And I suppose…
We’re doing this, dealing that is, almost every hour of
every day – true?
And
so, if you’d like to be more consciously aware of a
little-thought-of factor in most people’s day-to-day
interactivity with those around them – then here goes:
Labels! Labels! Labels!
Yes
– everything has a label.
Whether it’s the twinkling little – star
The
man who drives the silver – Mercedes
Or
the woman who’s always - busy
We
label everyone – and guess what?
Everyone labels us too!
Now here’s a thought worthy of the name:
Wouldn’t it be a stonking idea – if every time you
and I used a label – we stopped for just a microsecond
and thought to ourselves:
Is
that label up to date?
Where did the label come from?
Could I change the label?
How
has the label affected how I deal with this person?
Have
I given a bad dog a good name?
And then…
Once
we’ve become skilled at realizing the labels we’ve
been using and changing those needing change – perhaps
we can start to think about the labels others might be using
about us.
I’m
sure of at least a couple of things.
1.
This is not something to get paranoid about
2.
Some of the labels will be justified
3.
Some of the labels won’t be
But…
Maybe there are some actions I can take, perhaps you
can take them too – to ensure the now-inaccurate labels
are slowly changed over time – by action.
Here’s another thought…
Share this idea with friends and colleagues – the insights
will be just that – insightful.
Remember:
“You can’t always see the label from
inside the jar!”
Let
me know
Go
on then!
