"It works so much better than..."
Hello

In Spain:
Off to a major shopping centre for quick breakfast, food shopping
and probably a meander around the shops and concessions
As we entered…
The massive concourse we were engaged in conversation by a good
looking young man called Barr.
Cleverly he asked questions, not too pushy, just the right level
of
good-natured banter and persuasiveness. I liked him.
Of course…
He was selling something. I declined to follow him to his ‘stand’
saying I’d return after breakfast and shopping.
Which we did
It was there he demonstrated such a fabulous skill, often under
utilized by so many (myself included – sometimes!)
He started by politely asking if we’d washed our hands that very
morning. Naturally we replied – yes!
Then again he courteously asked us if he could place a small drop
of ‘liquid’ in our palms followed by a squirt of water. We affirmed
and were then asked to wash our hands with the ‘mixture’.
He asked:
“How does it feel?”
“Gritty!” We both replied (Sharon, my wife and I)
“Let me add some more water for you and let’s see what happens”
(As though he didn’t know!!)
The mixture changed to become smooth and pleasant to the touch
and we rinsed our hands into a small bowl Barr provided.
He continued:
“You did say you washed your hands earlier, didn’t you Peter?” He
asked
“Yes”, I said. “And you too Sharon”, he asked. Another ‘yes’!
“Well – just look at the colour of this water – see just how much
extra dirt
the solution has cleaned from your hands!”
(You just have to love the word SOLUTION in that sentence – don’t
you?)
I could go on and on for another 30 minutes - the time we spent
with him
and share with you all of the numerous ways in which he engaged, cajoled
with a smile and closed the deal. He was GOOD, very, very good!
(I picked up a couple of phrases I’ll be integrating)
But…
The REAL point I want to make for you (and make to myself) is
this simple:
How much better is a cracking DEMONSTRATION than a dry
presentation?
Answer:
So much better, so much better, so much better!
And I was wondering…
How often can you do a demonstration to get your point across, to
be
more persuasive, to hear more ‘yeses’?
Lots I’d think.
Just think if Barr had talked about cleanliness – would we have
bought?
Will you demonstrate?
Go
on then!
