"Well - what did you expect?"
Hello
Well
– I suppose it is to be expected; after all isn’t it implied in the word itself?
But…
When
Dan Ariely did his tests he proved just how it works and why it’s so important.
Not
just to how you and I understand ‘why’ we do what we do from time to time; but
even how we need to know when we communicate with other people.
You see…
When
we’re asked to taste – well almost anything – and we have a preconceived notion
the substance or liquid will NOT be to our taste – then sure enough – it will
NOT be!
Similarly: if we taste having previously thought “this will be scrummy;
delicious; just what I was waiting for” then again as sure as eggs are eggs –
the taste will live up to our
expectations.
What’s even better…
This
“you get what you expect” idea applies in so many different ways and to so many
different areas. Here are just a few for your consideration and possible use:
One:
To
enhance the simplest of meals – serve on fabulous plates surrounded by the best
of cutlery and of course the fine wine glasses. It will taste so much better.
Two:
To
increase your potential customer’s and customers’ likelihood of purchase having
read your words – paint vivid and evocative and attention lassoing word pictures
and word words for their delectation.
Three:
Check your own attitude at the start of any action to ensure you’ve set yourself
up for success rather than anything potentially opposite.
We
could discuss this all day couldn’t we – and perhaps we might one of these
mornings – but for now:
Will
you give some considered to these phrasings knowing they help you get where you
seek as well as having more tasty experiencings along the road?
Go on then...
