"What Does Yours Say About You?"
Hello
It
was about 2:30 pm on Friday when I noticed the incoming of another email – this
time with a subject line I always love to see.
It’s
the one that says: CONFERENCE FORM
And it tells me…
Some
one is enquiring about me speaking at an event of some description, it’s an
automatic email generated from a page on my website.
Now…
When
I read the email I just had to laugh (OUT LOUDLY) because the title of the
person enquiring was one I’d never, ever, ever, ever seen before.
It
was: Director of Creative Rule Breaking
As
you can imagine – I almost knew the type of conversation I was going to have
with
(Let me call him John) just by his title.
And…
Having had the ‘expected’ style of conversation – which was just so much fun and
connection – I wasn’t surprised to find out that ‘John” had a number of business
cards all with different ideas and titles on them.
On
my business cards, for some years now, I’ve NOT had any title at all; instead I
have ‘What I do’ and mine states:
Peter Thomson
“Creates Good Stuff”
MY
colleague of some 28 years, Steve has on his card:
Steve Harrison
“Sells Good Stuff”
So
naturally any one seeing those straplines will have an instant insight into the
type of people we are. Slightly quirky, a bit off the wall – and certainly
focused on ‘Fun with a Serious Intent’.
And so…
I
was wondering what your card says about you:
Is there a title?
If
so – what is it?
Is
there a line about what you do rather than who you are?
I
heard from an acquaintance in the States who has a number of cards one of which
is, in effect, his dog’s business card with him (my contact) shown as the dog’s
owner!
Now is this…
Appropriate for ALL circumstances? Not at all!
BUT:
- for some occasions – just perfect.
Will
you take some time and think just how many cards you can have and what you want
to say on them about who you are and what you do for other people.
You
will?
Go on then...
