"Which of The Three is?"
Hello
Thinking about a presentation I’m about to give and realizing again – there’s a
concentration to be focused on two parts of it – perhaps more than might; as
first; seem right.
However…
When
I’ve noticed a slippage, even a tiny one, from this – the whole enchilada
crumbles and bits slodge out all over the floor.
And so…
I
was wondering (as I do) if you have an occasion or five to stand and deliver
your words of experience, your knowledge, hard won and your expertise honed at
the cutting edge of life? And if you do then maybe, just maybe this idea will be
of use to you now and in the not to distant future.
You see…
When
preparing your speech then there are 3 key areas to consider and they simple
stated are: The opening; the body; the closing.
And have you found…
As I
have that (on just some occasions) my concentration has been far too heavily
weighted and waited on the body of the speech; the brilliance of light bulb
ideas I want to share; the cornucopia of bits, bobs and stories all with a
hidden meaning of deeper meaning.
And in the…
Concentration on the middle – have spent barely a hour on preparing the start
and finish, the begin and have done; the open and close.
And
yet – aren’t these the two areas our listeners will most remember? Yes! I hear
you truthfully murmur (or shout) depending on your mood at this very moment.
And so…
Where do we go from here?
Well
– the thought is simple, the actions a little less so.
Here
goes:
As
you prepare your opening consider your audience (Yes! I know you do any way)
consider perhaps a tad deeper than before:
Who
are they?
What
do they want from you?
What
are their concerns?
And
at least 20 more questions you’ll create (perhaps with the help of colleagues)
then ask and answer and implement.
Then…
As
you prepare your closing – consider what message you’d like them to carry out
with them other than their warmth for you of course J
In this way…
Your
sandwich filler of content will be appropriately and properly prepared and
presented to make the best mental meal for your audience members’ delectation.
Did
this hit the spot?
It
did – oh! Great!
So
which of the three is of most importance - the start, the middle, the end? Well,
for me the start is first, the end of second and the middle is third.
But
– preparation of all is nevertheless critical to success.
Go on then...
