"Is It Just Their Hands?"
Hello
When you do that mental trick of casting your mind backwards and – think about
all the leaders you’ve interacted with over your life.
There will be…
Teachers, perhaps your dominant parent, your first boss (even if that was the
local newsagent whose papers you delivered), first proper boss, maybe Scout
troop or Girl Guide leader – there’s probably been a few of them to recall.
And when you do...
Do you find there were some differences?
I’m sure you do.
Now here’s a thought...
To be thinking:
Some ‘leaders’ make the mistake of only valuing their people’s hands – in other
phrase the skills and abilities and results they bring to the party.
Others avoid this mistake and value their people for who they are – now that’s a
key difference!
Sometimes...
I’ve made this mistake – though these days I’d like to think I don’t.
This is idea was smashed against my receptive head during a recent interview I
carried out with Chris Brindley; winner of The Best Boss Award UK. He is so
focused on helping his people to be the best they can be and only then focused
on what they bring to his party – just brilliant leadership – and it works!
And so...
I
wonder if you know a leader who makes the mistake of only valuing ‘hands’ and
perhaps you could help them by pointing it out.
Go on then
