"Worth a second..."
Hello

For
the last 7 weeks I’ve been doing something I haven’t
done before.
I
asked…
“Why, Peter, didn’t you do this before?”
My
self-answer came ambling back; “Because!”
“Because!
What sort of answer is that?”
“Well, just because then!”
“You need to explain yourself more clearly”
“OK
then – here you go…”
Whenever I staggered, stumbled or stuttered across
this before I always jumped to the conclusion – it just
wasn’t for me.
And…
I
reached that deduction based on virtually no information
and certainly no experience. I didn’t even ask other people
if they had any knowledge about the subject. I just assumed
it wasn’t for me.
I
guessed it was too risky, too rich for my blood, too… - well
you know, more for people more knowledgeable than me.
What a mistake I made!
When
I looked at what’s been achieved in just 7 weeks,
I glanced over my shoulder to the past and realized just
how much I could have had – if I’d only been more
open-minded.
I
was surprised…
At
myself because I’ll usually take a look at anything just
in case. For example: I remember 22 years ago in a
meeting with a lessor (I was in the leasing business) when
David (the lessor) said to me, “Peter, why don’t you keep
those funds on the overnight market?”
Not
having a sensible answer – I just raised my eyebrows
in a silent question and David explained.
Taking action with his idea made my company over £120k
per annum and when the business was sold that idea became
worth just over £1,000,000.
I’m
glad I was open-minded.
Such
a shame I wasn’t with this latest idea – a bit earlier, but
at least I am now.
Now…
The
idea itself is not relevant to our discussion today, I’m
sure I’ll come back to it for you at another time.
What
is relevant is the ‘thinking and action’ behind the
experiences.
And so…
I
was wondering – are there any ‘closed-minded’ ideas
you’ve rejected either recently or in the past?
And
– would they be worth re-visiting? You’ll know if they
are any – and whether a re-visit is worth the time and effort.
You’ll have heard me use the expression “If only I’d…” before
and it’s surely one you and I want to avoid having to say just
because we didn’t think it was worth - a second look.
Go
on then!
