"Paying A Compliment"
Hello
Isn’t it just a great feeling to pay someone an honest compliment and see their
face light up?
In fact...
I’m not sure I’m really paying people enough compliments – and perhaps I need to
be on the lookout to do it more often.
However...
There is a slight problem and it’s – some people deflect compliments because
they feel slightly embarrassed as being praised.
But...
There are a few ideas to make this ‘paying’ smooth, simple and easy for both
parties involved – here they are:
One:
When paying a compliment – be specific rather than a generalist.
Two:
Use the person’s name in the compliment-paying sentence.
Three:
Praise the action and NOT the person. Praise of just the person will sound like
flattery; praise of the action will be far more sincere.
Four – and the big one...
To avoid someone deflecting your honest and heartfelt compliment – add a
question after the compliment
For example:
Rather than:
“John, thanks for getting me your sales report a day early – it really helped me
get the Board Report finished on time”
Say:
“John, thanks for getting me your sales report a day early – it really helped me
get the Board Report finished on time – how long did it take you?”
Just think...
How many opportunities we have each and every day to brighten someone else’s
life by sincerely recognising what they do – and especially what they do for us.
In the hurly-burly of busyness business it’s easy to forget at times – isn’t it?
I know I do.
But...
Now I’ll be more on the lookout for occasions to add a little honest and
appropriate sunshine to their day and mine.
thank
you for taking the time to read my Monday messages, I do hope they make a
difference for you – do you read them every week?
Go on then...
