"And Whilst We're Talking About Money..."
Hello

You remember last week I was talking about money and the idea of unpacking
problems to find out how to solve them – don’t you?
Well…
One
of my clients and friends sent me an email with some comments about my thought
of:
“If you want to know how to become rich; just find out why you’re poor”
Tony
said that he and Margaret were discussing the idea and went onto to let me into
another expression.
This
is one Tony uttered ‘off the cuff’ so to speak and then realized just how
profound, brilliant and useful (my words not his) – it is and will be for
anyone.
His expression is:
“The
reason we can’t pay ourselves more is because we’re on the maximum rate for what
we’re doing!”
Oh – and isn’t that true?
I’ve
lost count of how many people I’ve spoken to about this situation. So many – so
many – so many!
The
truth of the money is – you can either do it well for one person; one at a time…
Or…
You
have to find a way to do it to lots of people all at the same time.
Let’s take the surgeon…
She
does it to one person at a time and because of her training and expertise and
experience – she’s able to charge appropriately for swapping her time for money.
Let’s take the author…
He
does it to many – all at the same time and because of his training and expertise
and experience – he’s able to charge appropriately for NOT swapping his time for
money.
Back to Tony and Margaret…
They’ve found themselves right in the middle of the equation and as you and I
know – this is the place where the “=” resides.
Shame is – it’s only equal to the difference made and the number of people it’s
made for.
T &
M – are doing a great job – making a difference, a positive and real
difference to their clients.
But:
They’re at the MAXIMUM rate for what they’re doing.
So what’s the solution?
There’s more than one.
1. Charge more
2. Find a way to do it to more than one at a time (a seminar/workshop/book/Internet/etc)
3. Change tack – and do something else
4. Teach someone else to do it – and take a
percentage
5. Charge others to learn to do it
And
I’m sure you can think of even more.
And so…
Where do we go from here?
My
suggestion is take a look at what you do, what you
get in return (both monetary and emotional) and decide
if you too might at times be getting paid at the current
maximum for what you’re doing.
And…
Whether that’s an acceptable situation for you
If
it is – great!
If
it’s not – action needed – yes?
Go
on then!
