"What A Difference!"
Hello

Being an information addict I thrive on discovering
new ways, new ideas – new thoughts.
Life
is a fascinating journey of never-ending discovery.
I
remember…
Michael Breen (first met him on the NLP practitioner
course when he was co-presenting with Paul McKenna
and Dr Richard Bandler {co-originator of NLP} in London)
…saying something about persuasive communication which
stuck with me ever since.
And…
On
TV’s Discovery Channel – I saw an example of the thought,
which brought it right up my nose again!
So -
if you ever have to present your ideas and want people to
truly understand your message and even better – be able to
take it away in their memory – then here’s the idea>
You can imagine…
I’ve
picked up a postage stamp, licked it and stuck it in the
middle of my forehead. In doing so I say – “This represents
the olfactory sense of a human being, their ability to smell
stuff!”
Next
– I take from my pocket a large, clean, handkerchief
and wave it about – saying – “This represents a dog’s
olfactory sense – no wonder they can track human beings
through streams and scattered pepper”
You can see…
The
postage stamp stuck on my forehead can’t you, it’s
a blue one and you can see the large white hankie too.
Far better:
This
‘demonstration’ than a couple of PowerPoint or
Keynote slides – wouldn’t you agree?
And
that’s the point Michael made so many years ago.
Demonstration not presentation!
Why?
Well
for me:
People remember what’s been demonstrated.
People understand what’s been demonstrated.
People action what’s been demonstrated.
Three great reasons to demonstrate rather than ONLY
present.
Will
you use this the next time you want to inform,
persuade or teach?
Go
on then!
